Define the tool task first
If the main task is repeatedly regrinding common cutting tools on the production floor, a three-axis CNC machine is a reasonable starting point for comparison. The catalog grinding diameter of the VP300D and VP300S is 3–20 mm, and the grinding length is 20–200 mm. The VP300S is also equipped with pneumatic clamping and a 3D probe.
Five-axis CNC tool grinding machines offer greater process freedom for complex rotary tool geometries, new tool manufacturing and more demanding regrinding. The VP500 series differs in machine body, motion system and spindle configuration, so the model should be selected according to the specific tool.
Use these questions to narrow down your options
- Is the goal to manufacture new tools, regrind used tools, or both?
- What are the tool type, diameter, and length?
- What are the cutting-edge geometry, number of flutes, material, and surface requirements?
- What are the target output, measurement, and automation requirements?
Compare with published models
For routine regrinding of common end mills and drill bits, start with VP300D and VP300S. For complex tool manufacturing, compare VP500D, VP500S and VP500R. Before ordering, we recommend confirming the process and final configuration using drawings or samples.
